From Memory to Voice: Transforming Lived Experience into Spoken Word | Oormila V. Prahlad

August 29 @ 9:15 am - 11:15 am
Poetry Workshop 6 | Cyndy Moody

Perth Poetry Festival 2026 · Ear to the Ground

How do memories become poems, and how do poems become voice?

Oormila V. Prahlad invites poets and writers of all ages to transform lived experience into spoken-word material through guided prompts, close listening and discussion. Memory, identity, culture, place, family and language become starting points for vivid imagery, rhythm and voice.

The workshop introduces approaches to structure, pacing, repetition and oral delivery, with participants encouraged to experiment in a supportive environment and develop a draft they can continue refining afterwards.

Facilitator

Oormila V. Prahlad is an Indian-Australian artist and poet whose work has appeared widely in Australian and international poetry publications. She has won major slam competitions and is the inaugural Writer in Residence at Woollahra Libraries.
